At global trade shows, Caterpillar needed more than brochures to capture attention—they needed an interactive way to connect with audiences and deliver content tailored to their roles. I helped design an iPad app that simplified complex product information into an intuitive, role-based experience. By combining clean UI design, brand consistency, and purposeful interactivity, the app became a powerful showcase tool that stood out on the busy Distributech floor and elevated the way Caterpillar engaged with potential customers.
Situation
Caterpillar needed a way to present complex equipment data and product information in a clear, engaging format at the Distributech trade show. Traditional brochures and static displays weren’t delivering the interactive, role-based experience Caterpillar wanted for prospective customers.
Task
I was tasked with designing the UI for an interactive iPad app that would allow different user types—such as operators, fleet managers, and executives—to easily navigate to the content most relevant to them. The solution had to stay on brand, be intuitive for trade show visitors, and stand out in a busy, competitive environment.
Action
I led the app’s visual design, creating a clean interface that prioritized simplicity and role-based navigation. I worked closely with developers and Caterpillar stakeholders to refine wireframes, test flows, and ensure every screen aligned with brand guidelines. I designed custom iconography, interactive elements, and clear hierarchy to guide users quickly to the right content.
Result
The app successfully debuted at Distributech, providing Caterpillar with a dynamic tool that impressed audiences and reinforced their reputation for innovation. The role-based navigation made the experience personalized and efficient, helping sales teams engage prospects more effectively while strengthening the Caterpillar brand.
